Class of 2027

Meet the Residents:  Class of 2026 Interns

    Autri Hafezi, MD

       Undergrad: University of Arizona
Medical School: University of Arizona College of Medicine-Tucson

         Where are you from?
         Cave Creek, AZ

Why did you choose UA Obstetrics and Gynecology?
I wanted a close-knit, supportive group of residents and fellows with access to the mentors who helped me get here. I wanted to be in an academic setting with the ability to participate in research. I consider Tucson home after living here for so long (I’m a Wildcat for life!) and can still see my family easily in Phoenix. Lastly, I wanted to be close to nature so I can destress easily on days off.

What is your favorite thing about living in Tucson?
I can’t pick just one- the food scene and proximity to nature with 360-degree views!

What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?
Being outside especially hiking, houseplants, sharing a meal with family and friends, reading, traveling

What are your professional interests within obstetrics and gynecology?
Advocating for underserved communities and populations, high-risk pregnancy, family planning, lactation/breastfeeding medicine, medication-assisted treatment in pregnancy

Favorite way to spend a day off?
Start off by sleeping in then putzing around admiring and caring for my growing plant collection while enjoying a home-brewed latte made by my partner, Nicolas. Then we’d go for a hike and grab a breakfast burrito from Seis Kitchen before relaxing at home.

Medical School: University of South Carolina School of Medicine Greenville

         Where are you from?
         Mackay, Australia

Why did you choose UA Obstetrics and Gynecology?
It was abundantly clear from early in the application process that UA cares deeply about diversity on many levels, including the lived experiences of its residents. I firmly believe this culture translates to improved patient outcomes and produces more compassionate graduates better suited to address the variety of situations we will encounter in future practice.

What is your favorite thing about living in Tucson?
The warm climate and abundant sunshine mean you never have to worry about losing a golden weekend to snow, rain, or otherwise gloomy weather. You can always plan outdoor activities and events year-round, even if that means relaxing in a cabana by a pool.

What are your interests or hobbies outside of medicine?
New experiences of all shapes and forms. That could mean traveling, experimenting in the kitchen, or teaching myself a new skill.

I am interested in comprehensive general practice and incorporating aspects of care historically marginalized within the profession. This includes family planning, advocacy, and inclusive LGBTQ care.
